The Heat is ON!

Last week as I was touring in transit from Mandaluyong to Makati Avenue as part of house hunting, the cab driver asked me if the summer time was the same as last year. For the life of me, I couldn’t quickly reply. Maybe the heat evaporated a few of my brain cells. Haha. I tried to look back, but due to the unpredictability of the weather, I couldn’t quite put my finger into it. Like at the start of summer this year, it kept raining that people wondered what will happen to summer. People actually complained a lot and begged for the bona fide summer to enjoy the beach. And now that summer is at its fiercest, people still complained. A lot. It’s so hot that I got a tan even while staying home! Seriously. I took off my ring yesterday after staying home the whole day and noticed the ring mark which wasn’t there before. It’s so hot that right after shower, leaving the bathroom, I start sweating already!

So while sweating it out and hopefully melting our fats away, below are heat temperature records.

Hottest day in Manila so far for 2012:

April 21, Saturday. “The maximum temperature recorded in Science Garden today is 35.9 C at 3:00 PM. So far, the highest recorded temp in M.Manila this year,” PAGASA said on its official Twitter account. source here

In 2011 it was April 26 at 36.1 C and 2010 it was April 20 at 36.8 C.

Hottest day in the Philippines ever:

42.2 °C (108 °F) on 11 May 1969 in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, breaking the 39.5 °C (103.1°F ) temperature recorded on 29 April 1912 also in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan .

Hottest day in the World ever

On September 13, 1922 the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth was reached in Al ‘Aziziyah, Libya, a city in the north of Africa. The temperature that day was an incredibly hot 136°F (57.7°C)! That’s about as hot as a cup of hot chocolate you might drink! Except instead of being comfortable in a cup, warming you up on a cool day, that’s the temperature of the air around you!

So you see, it’s so far less hot this year than the two years before. Though summer is not yet over, so let’s wait and see. But knowing that compared to other countries, this heat we are complaining about is already mild. I think we should just put things in perspective, count our blessing more and complain less. Oh, and maybe just wear more sunscreen protection always. =)

Enjoy summer!

(un)wellness

something more fatal than swine flu is affecting our neighborhood with 3 deaths in 3weeks… old age.

one was 50+, male, one was 60+ male, one was 60+ female. my mom’s having bouts of high blood pressure already. not sure if it was due to the fact that some of her contemporaries are expiring.

as a mom of a 9yr old boy and an aunt to 5 kids, i’d like to live long to see my grandchildren grow up and be with them. i try to take care of my health as much as i can. that is one of the things that will change once you become a parent. when before you just smoke and drink your life away, party and overwork never minding the impact to your health, now you can’t afford to get sick.

getting sick may mean your family getting sick as well, getting ill means not being able to come to work which can impact your livelihood, being unhealthy may mean you can’t play with your kids or be that physically close to them.

if i’m prudent on almost anything, i don’t have any indecision when it comes to spending for my family’s health, hygiene amd school needs. stuff like, healthy food, vaccines, check ups, hand sanitizers, pediatric dental needs, vitamins, books, attending book fairs with the kids and letting them buy all the books they like, etc.

every night i only ask two things to God – good health and safety for myself and my entire family. if i have those two,  i’m already at peace and happy.

Mens sana in corpore sano.
